In July of 2023, E-Football coaches got to support the Cal Football team at their first Golden Buddies Football Camp!

The Cal Football team and the Cal-Cameron Institute for Student-Athlete Development asked E-Football to partner with them for this inaugural camp because they share E-Sports’ vision for inclusion. Expressing a desire to learn from E-Sports, our team of E-Football coaches were invited to do some pre-event training with the Cal football players on how to work with the kids and run inclusive football drills. Then the E-Football coaches and Cal players worked alongside each other to run the clinic stations.

The Golden Buddies Football Camp – a new collaboration between Special Olympics of Northern California, the Cameron Institute for Student-Athlete Development, and the Cal Football team – invited East Bay youth with and without disabilities to Memorial Stadium for a fun day of learning about football with more than 40 members of the Cal football team. Typical kids and kids with special needs aged 6-13 participated in drills with current Cal football student-athletes and had a great time doing inclusive activities.

More than 50 families from the community came and were blown away by the caring and inclusive environment at the camp. The joy that was spread to the kids and families was truly incredible.

E-Sports looks forward to continuing this great connection with UC Berkeley student athletes to change lives through inclusion!
