E-Sports benefits thousands of children worldwide every weekend.

However, we wouldn’t have nearly as much impact as a program without the service, sacrifice, and leadership of our volunteer coaches.  These special individuals embody the heart of E-Sports by facilitating, leading, and exemplifying inclusion every time they step onto the field, court, studio, or dojo.

About Kathy

Kathy Siu is a 16 year old student about to begin her junior year at Hillsdale High School in San Mateo. Her primary role at E-Sports is a volunteer head coach for kids ranging in age from 4-6 years old at E-Soccer in Foster City.

However, similar to many other E-Sports coaches, Kathy has an impressive ability to adapt to another coaching role if the need comes up. She can lead an E-Sports group, take the role of an assistant coach, and also work one-on-one with kids who need some extra help being included.

Kathy has spent most of her life playing soccer and first came to volunteer at E-Soccer in Foster City when her older sister invited her to help out around 4 years ago.

When asked what her favorite part about volunteering at E-Sports, she shared, “It’s just really fun! I enjoy making an impact on kids by being able to teach them the skills of soccer and how to build relationships!”

We also asked her a unique question from other E-Sports “Coach Highlights” interviews. Our second question for her was, “What is something you see that is different about E-Soccer from other soccer programs. Her response was, “Kids that wouldn’t normally get to be a part of the group are included and get the opportunity to do things that everyone else is doing.”

Kathy is also the president of an inclusive club at her school called “Special Olympics at HHS.”  The purpose of the club is to provide an inclusive environment by using sports for kids of all ranges of abilities and disabilities.
